Case history: breech pregnancy

Maria and Lowri

Maria originally visited Chris when she was pregnant, and had discovered that her baby was in a breech position.

"I wanted to check that everything was aligned for the birth, so had monthly sessions running up to the birth as part of my care plan."

In the event, Baby Lowri was delivered by emergency caesarean section. Maria felt that her new daughter had missed out on an important part of the birth process by not going through the birth canal, and was keen for her to be checked over by Chris.

Babies who have been in a breech position late in pregnancy can sometimes be left with a strain, or sense of compression in the hip joints or pelvis. Chris found that this was not the case with Lowri, so no treatment was needed, but the examination provided important reassurance for her Mum.

"I now recommend all my friends to book in as a matter of course, even if there's no cause for concern. It's a running joke I have with people - 'Call in on your way home from Jessops!'"
