Case history: sports injury
Gustavo
In 2003 Gustavo had a bad injury playing football as a goalkeeper. He injured both shoulders and was experiencing severe pain. He visited the hospital for treatment, but at the time his symptoms were thought to be minor, and no action was taken. After a year of considerable discomfort, Gus consulted his doctor. He had several injections of cortisone and also saw a physiotherapist privately. A year later, he was still in a lot of pain and a colleague pointed him in Chris's direction.
Chris felt that the extreme pain that Gus was experiencing indicated that specialist treatment was required, and advised Gus to insist that his GP refer him to a consultant. Within six months of this recommendation he had an operation on both of his shoulders.
Following surgery, further treatment from Chris helped to ease tension and restore movement, and alongside exercises from his physio, this ensured that Gus was well on the way to a full recovery.
"Without Chris I would never have got to where I am now, which is back on form, playing football and getting black eyes and bruises from the younger lads!"
