The Pregnancy Clinic

Special treatment for mums-to-be

Osteopathy for pregnancyAs a natural extension to our range of family based care, our Pregnancy Clinic offers specialised osteopathic care for mums-to-be. The Clinic is led by Mandy Redmond, who as a mum to her own young son, is particularly familiar with the impact of pregnancy and early motherhood.

Osteopathy in pregnancy is not new, but many people are unaware of its full potential.

As a mum-to-be, you are carrying an increasingly heavy (and precious!) load - your body has to adapt to your increase in weight, and the shift of your centre of gravity, as well as making room for your baby as she grows. This can be particularly challenging if you already have a child in the family, and are spending time carrying them about as well. You may be experiencing backache or rib pain, and you may also find that simple things like walking, sitting, or turning over in bed are now uncomfortable, or even painful.

Problems like these are so common in pregnancy that they are often considered normal. This should not mean that you need to suffer! Pain or discomfort is a sign that your body is struggling and needs help.

Osteopathy can help to provide relief from numerous pregnancy related aches and pains, as well as more specific conditions such as Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction and carpal tunnel syndrome. It can also be helpful in offering relief from pregnancy related issues such as heartburn, breathing difficulties, swollen ankles and varicose veins.

We can also help to fine tune the way that your pelvis works, helping to reduce the chance of a problematic labour.

Our objective is to help to improve your quality of life, allowing you to enjoy your pregnancy. The safety of mother and baby is our primary concern, and osteopaths are highly trained to deal with antenatal issues. Gentle osteopathic techniques are perfectly safe at all stages of pregnancy*.

* If you are not yet 16 weeks pregnant, please telephone us to speak to an osteopath before booking an appointment.

A special post-natal check after your baby arrives can also help you to recover from the birth. Treatment is aimed at gently easing sore and tired muscles, and rebalancing the pelvis. It can also help to ease back pain from breast feeding and lifting your baby.
