What to expect
Adults
Your first visit to see the osteopath will last up to an hour. A full medical history will be taken and important information about your lifestyle will be discussed. You will also be asked about your symptoms and factors that affect them.
You will normally be asked to remove some of your clothes so that a detailed physical examination can take place. This includes looking at your posture and the way you move.
Once a diagnosis has been reached, a treatment plan will be developed with you. Osteopathy is patient-centred, meaning the treatment is geared towards you as an individual.

Babies and children
Your child's first appointment with the osteopath will last up to an hour. A full medical history will be taken and important information about your pregnancy and the birth itself will also be discussed.
You will normally be asked to undress your child down to his or her nappy or underwear so that a detailed physical examination can take place.
Once a diagnosis has been reached, a treatment plan will be developed with you.
